Accident details still unavailable

Questions surrounding two area oilfield fatalities, which happened within about one month of each other, remain unanswered and one official says it could take weeks until investigations are completed.

On March 6, Christopher Whalen of Havre, Mont., died after a 250-pound steel pipe fell on his head while performing seismograph work for Erickson Contract Surveying, Inc. near Beach the day prior.

On April 5, Black Hills Trucking Inc. employee Larry Due was killed while working in an oilfield near Killdeer.

Mike Maslowski, Occupational Safety and Health Administration acting area director said Monday his agency is still investigating both incidents.

The investigation into the incident involving Whalen should be completed in a few weeks, Maslowski said.
