Whether they are hot or iced, blended or in a pure liquid state, Americans have come to love fancy coffee drinks just as much as hot black coffee.

In Dickinson, a family from Washington state -- the coffee capitol of the U.S. -- has opened up yet another place to get a caffeine fix.

Daily Perks opened in late July and is celebrating its grand opening this week as owner Benjamin Holmes and manager and lead barista Gabrielle Perez serve up basics like lattes and cappuccinos to energy-drink laced concoctions for those who don't like coffee.

"We enjoy serving people, we enjoy having coffee," Perez said. "We really just want to serve good coffee to people."

Holmes' family is in the construction industry and came here from the Seattle area. Perez, who is dating Holmes' brother, came along for the ride. Perez has 10 years of experience working in coffee shops.

"It's always been family-owned coffee shops," Perez said of her experience.

There was a coffee kiosk in roughly the same place last year, but Daily Perks was built from scratch by Holmes' father.

"He basically did a one-man job on this thing," Holmes said of his father. "It's really a family business."

The small stand is packed with flavor syrups, coffee, tea and state-of-the-art espresso equipment.

In addition to coffee drinks, Daily Perks make smoothies and a special blend of orange juice, energy drinks and a flavor called a zinger.

"We do a lot of different concoctions with energy drinks," Holmes said.

The coffee comes from their home state of Washington.

Holmes has been in Dickinson for about a year and is enjoying the community, as is Perez.

"You think North Dakota, you think the big oil boom," Perez said. "But it's a really nice city and it's not overwhelming with workers."

She even has family from the Minot area.

They're working to partner with local bakers to offer sweets and breakfast sandwiches.

They plan on offering seasonal specials, but do offer flavors like pumpkin and peppermint all year.

Daily Perks is located at 16 State Ave. S., near Pizza Hut. Summer hours are Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Call 701-483-5282 for more information and "like" them on Facebook at
