2 bull elk found shot
DEERING (AP) -- Ward County authorities are investigating the shooting of two bull elk, worth an estimated $7,000, on an elk farm near Deering.
Bob Cooper says he was watching the farm while the owner, Ken Herslip, was out of town. He says he found the elk dead Monday morning.
Cooper says the larger of the elk was a bull that weighed about 1,500 pounds and was used for breeding. He says the large bull was worth about $5,000 and a smaller elk, weighing about 800 pounds, was worth about $2,000.
Cooper says he thinks someone, possibly after drinking, "just decided to take a pot shot" at the animals.
