CAVALIER (AP) -- A semitrailer traveling from Canada rolled off a highway in northeastern North Dakota, injuring the driver and spilling thousands of gallons of an oil product. North Dakota Health Department scientist Mike Sauer says environmental damage appears minimal.

The Highway Patrol reports that 24-year-old Jakob Neumann was driving the rig with two tanker trailers when it drifted onto the shoulder of Highway 18 Monday evening, just north of Cavalier. The truck and trailers rolled onto their sides in the ditch, spilling about 5,000 gallons of road oil, which is used in road construction.

Neumann was taken to a Cavalier hospital with unspecified injuries.

Sauer says cleanup is going well. He says the spill was confined to the ditch and no waterways were affected. No animals were hurt.
