$9.9 million elementary addition approved
TIOGA - A $9.9 million bond issue for an elementary school addition and expansion of the high school cafeteria has been approved, according to the unofficial results of a vote held Thursday.
The vote count was 218 for and 81 against. It will become official when the Tioga school board meets Wednesday.
The school district brought the bond to vote because of increasing enrollment which has more than doubled in the past six years. With the bond, the school district plans to add two stories to the Central Elementary School, including new classrooms, and an expansion of the high school kitchen and cafeteria.
The bond will be paid off through an increase in property taxes. A homeowner whose home is valued at $150,000 would pay about $192 per year in additional property taxes.
