Area man shot
The body of a 49-year-old Dickinson man was found Friday in Dunn County and foul play is suspected, local authorities said.
Dunn County Sheriff Larry Boepple identified the man as Neal Metajovsky, who had been missing since March. Boepple said it appeared the man had been shot, and an official autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Matejovsky's body was found about a mile away from the border of Dunn County and Stark County about eight miles east of Highway 22.
Authorities said they discovered the body while working on an investigation involving Metajovsky. He was reported missing about 10 days ago.
Stark County Sheriff Clarence Tuhy said a helicopter was used to search for Matejovsky. They did not know how long his body had been in Dunn County before it was discovered.
"We weren't searching for a body, we came across some information while attempting to locate this individual (Matejovsky)," Rummel said.
Jaden Bear of Beulah, who is Metajovsky's friend, said it was not like him to up and leave.
"He would have told me," Bear said.
Bear added she normally talks to Metajovsky daily, but hadn't heard from him since March 22. She was notified on Thursday that he was missing.
Another of Matejovsky's friends, Daniel Keidatz, agrees his absence was strange.
"It's not like him to just disappear," Keidatz said.
Keidatz said he hadn't heard from Matejovsky in more than a month.
"I have a lot of suspicions about people," Bear said.
No arrests or charges have been filed.
"It's not something you want to happen in any city or county," Tuhy said, adding more information will be released as the investigation continues. "... We sure don't want to jeopardize any charges or any investigation into this."
