Berger places 3rd at Custer County tourney
MILES CITY, Mont. — The Dickinson High wrestling team didn’t any qualms about its finish on the final day of the Custer County Tournament.
Dickinson senior Devin Berger at 132 pounds placed third, while junior Clayton Tangen (152) took sixth on Saturday.
“Overall, we were pretty happy with the performance out there,” Dickinson co-head coach Pete Dobitz said. “It’s a tough tournament. I know in one of the weight classes they had four state champions. It’s one of the tougher tournaments. To get two guys to make it that far in the tournament and be as successful as they were, we were pretty happy.”
Though the Midgets were pleased with their performance, the team is setting its sights on a West Region dual against Turtle Mountain at 3 p.m. in Belcourt. Dobitz said it’s an important dual for team standings going into the state tournament.“This is a big dual for us and it’s always a big dual between us, because the winner gets the No. 3 seed in the state dual tournament,” he said. “The loser gets the No. 4 seed and the No. 4 seed always gets West Fargo. We are pretty confident going into the dual, but we are going into hostile territory, because they always wrestle really well at home. We are going to have to bring our ‘A’ game and wrestle that much better up there.”
