A renovation project to a long-standing building on Dickinson State University's campus could be inching closer, as bids are due Thursday.

Built in the 1920s, Stickney Hall was originally used as a dormitory but now houses many professors' offices.

In November, the North Dakota Board of Higher Education approved more than $1 million for the renovations.

"It's been approved for us to go forward," said Constance Walter, director of university relations at DSU. "The bids are going out, but we have not changed the amount at all."

The proposal includes upgrades to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, new windows, restroom changes, student health care facility spatial reconfigurations, and new furnishings and equipment, said Walter in November according to a previous Press article.

Funding will be through state appropriations deemed for extraordinary repairs and deferred maintenance.

"Our hope is that we can get started in the fall, but you have to wait until all the bids and everything comes in," Walter said.

All bids will be publicly opened and read aloud in the President's Conference Room at DSU's May Hall on Thursday at 2 p.m. and all bids turned in after the opening time will be returned to the bidder unopened, according to a public notice.
