Blue Hawks add 11 players

The Dickinson State women's basketball team officially added 11 new recruits to the 2013 Blue Hawks roster this weekend.

Blue Hawks head coach Caleb Harrison is excited about the new recruiting class and the talent they bring to the table.

"We had a lot of needs, we got a good returning core we just wanted to compliment with some more shooting some more speed," Harrison said. "But the big emphasis is in the point guard position; we feel like we've really improved in that area and just overall made our team athletic and more dynamic around the perimeter."

Harrison's answer to the point guard subject is sophomore guard TaRicka Linzy, a transfer from Rock Valley College (Ill.). Linzy brings experience to the point guard position and was the 2013 NJCAA Division III National Tournament MVP after defeating Mohawk Valley Community College (N.Y.) 78-60 in the championship.

Other notable recruits are Keshawnee Alley, who was also a part of the 2013 national champion Rock Valley College. Alley averaged 13.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game this past season. Ja'Lisa Gatlin is the tallest recruit at 5-foot-11 who offers DSU versatility on offense.

Harrison also said that the combination of the new recruits and returners like seniors Jess Bygate and Dawne Degel and sophomore Jalyn Klauzer will be a good combination.

"The overall class will be able to contribute," Harrison said. "Each of them brings a different skill set so they'll complement each other and compliment the players that we already had."
