LEWISTON, Idaho -- Although the Dickinson State volleyball team recorded its 12th straight loss Thursday against Lewis-Clark State College (25-8, 15-25, 21-25), DSU head coach Jon Stenman said he was happy with the gradual improvement of his team's performance throughout the match.

"We got better every set we played," Stenman said. "They have a very very athletic team and do things that other teams in the conference just flat out can't.

"We started off slow because we couldn't adjust to what they were doing we made some unforced errors ... We didn't get off to a very positive start but we battled, we adjusted. We talked before how we failed to make adjustments as we played teams well this time we made those adjustments."

The Blue Hawks committed 10 hitting errors in the first set but learned quickly and was able to keep up with Lewis-Clark in the third set. It was back and forth until 23-21 when a DSU missed serve finished the team's chances of winning the game.

Seniors Kelly O'Connor and Melissa Avila led the team on the court with 9 kills each, while O'Connor also collected 12 digs. Morgan Lutz, who has seen more playing time lately, led the team with 12 assists.

The Blue Hawks have a quick turnaround and travel from Idaho to Butte, Mont. to take on Montana Tech, which are 12-5 on the season, at 5:30 p.m. today.

"The girls were very positive in the locker room afterwards. If you were to walk by the locker room you would have thought we would have won," Stenman said. "That's how excited they were about the way we finished that match.

"If we can hit the floor tomorrow the way we needed the floor tonight, I like our chances."
