Blue Hawks qualify 5 athletes to nationals
SPEARFISH, S.D. — Indoor track and field ended three weeks ago and the Dickinson State track and field teams had a break to recover.
But the Blue Hawks showed no signs of slowing down and already have five athletes hit the national standard at the Black Hills State Open on Saturday.
Senior high jumper Hailey Schaper was the only athlete to make the A standard with a height of 5 feet, 6 inches.
The other four qualifiers met the B standard and were all on the men’s team. Breyan Miller met the standard in the 100- and 200-meter runs completing them in 10.7 seconds and 21.64 seconds, respectively. Senior Nathan Magstadt qualified in two events, the 110 and 400 meter hurdles and ran 14.8 seconds and 54.04 seconds, respectively.
Sophomore Dante Carter qualified in the 800 meters at 1:54.04 and senior Andy Knebel rounded out the qualifiers after reaching 6-8¾ in the high jump.
DSU will compete again on Saturday at the University of Mary Invite in Bismarck.
