The Blue Hawks defeated Rocky Mountain College 84-63 in a Frontier Conference matchup Saturday night.

“I’ve been just lecturing defense, defense and trying to get them to buy into it,” DSU head coach Mark Graupe said. “Well finally, the last 30 minutes of the game, (Rocky Mountain) only scored 35 points and finally I saw people helping each other and doing a nice job and the ladies had fun again.”

The Blue Hawks outrebounded Rocky Mountain 52-35 and picked up an impressive 20 offensive rebounds. Senior guard Dawne Degel led the team with 12 rebounds and also had six points, three assists and a steal. Junior forward Ja’Lisa Gatlin, senior guard Mariah Duran and sophomore guard TaRicka Linzy combined for more than half of DSU’s points with 47 total.

DSU returns home to host Montana Tech Saturday afternoon and the results are do or die. Only six teams make it to the conference tournament and the Blue Hawks are on the cusp. A win against the Orediggers could be seriously beneficial for the team’s chances of clinching one of the remaining .
