Blue Hawks volleyball team wins two matches

The Dickinson State volleyball team remained unbeaten through the first weekend of their season with a pair of 3-0 victories at the Quality Inn and Suites Classic at Jamestown College.

The Blue Hawks beat Eastern Oregon 30-14, 30-26, 30-16 in their first match. They then beat Montana State-Western 30-16, 30-11, 30-19 in their afternoon match.

"We're happy at this point in the season," Dickinson State coach Dave Moody said. "We now know we can't lose them all."

The Blue Hawks had a .384 hitting percentage for the tournament, which Moody said is up about .200 since opening weekend last season.

"We're out of the block a little quicker than we even thought we would be," Moody said.

Nancy Nyongesa had 17 kills against Montana State-Western and 13 against Eastern Oregon to lead the Blue Hawks. Elizabeth Castillo had 22 kills after both matches and Elizabeth Rodriguez had 18.

"Offensivley, we are light years ahead of where we were last year at this point in time," Moody said.

Moody is rightfully upbeat. The Blue Hawks won all four of their matches at the tournament with ease and were able to balance the team's new additions with their experienced counterparts.

"I think we're going to be an entertaining ticket this year," Moody said.
