"With the busy summer schedule, it's a nice time to get away and enjoy some light-hearted music," Walters said.

This is the first summer in many years that the Choral Union will have a performance, said Walters, who is an instructor of piano at DSU.

"We typically have holiday concerts such as the 'Messiah' and other larger works," he said. "We had a solid turnout this summer and I'm really pleased."

The performance, titled "Songs of Summer," features a variety of music, from themed songs to love songs and spirituals. Accompanist will be Cheryl Hewson.

Walters included several solos to showcase the talent within the choir. Featured soloists include Ruth Heley, Hewson, Kayla Kilwein, Michael Stevenson, Lori Adolf and Carolyn Burns.

The choir has been rehearsing Mondays since the beginning of June.

"It's been a delight," he said. "We keep it fun and hope to solicit more involvement for future concerts."

Walters said the Choral Union will be doing a holiday concert, with rehearsals to begin shortly.
