The Dickinson High softball team waited for one big hit.

It took until the fourth inning, but the Midgets received the hit from senior right fielder Avery Privratsky.

Privratsky ripped a three-run triple to right-center field as Dickinson defeated Dawson County (Mont.) 6-1 in a nonconference game on Thursday at Gress Softball Complex.

“I just go up there, watch, get my timing down and hit it,” Privratsky said. “Wherever it goes, it goes.”

With the win, the Midgets improve to 18-2. Their only losses came to Minot Ryan on Monday.

Dickinson also congratulated the 11 seniors on the roster Thursday.

Senior second baseman Rachel Silkey, who went 1 for 2 with a double and scored a run, said she couldn’t imagine playing with another team.

“We just play really well together,” she said. “We have a lot of chemistry and once we start hitting everything just keeps going. It took a little bit to get going, but we always know we have the bats in the bag.”

Despite giving up six runs, Dawson County starting pitcher Sarah Temple gave up only four hits to the Midgets. However, she threw eight walks.

Dickinson seniors Rachel Jahner and Haley Butterfield posted the two other hits. Jahner also scored a run, while Abby Jones — who courtesy ran for Butterfield — scored two runs.

“It took a little while for the bats to warm up,” Dickinson head coach Bill Butterfield said. “We kind of learned with our patience that they are going to come around sooner or later.”

Haley Butterfield and Madison Jahner combined to pitch seven innings, allowed one run on four hits and struck out six. The senior starter picked up the win after going 5 1/3 innings. Madison Jahner finished the final 1 2/3 innings.

Dawson County’s lone run came during the third inning when Wyniah Mintz hit a RBI single to center. Aspen Gibbs, who led off the inning with a double, scored on the play.

The Lady Devils also posted four hits, but left five players in scoring position. Alexis Pettersen — who was 2 for 3 — was the only player to have multiple hits.

“We had our chances,” Dawson County head coach Todd Naasz said. “We left runners at second and third, but we just couldn’t get them in. We just couldn’t string enough hits together.”

The Midgets continue their season traveling to three straight West Region doubleheaders. Dickinson begins its road trip with Minot High at 3:30 p.m. today.

“We haven’t seen Minot this year and I think they are going to be a quality team,” Bill Butterfield said. “We are looking forward to seeing what they have up there.”

Silkey added: “We just have to keep going and we need to adjust to opposing pitchers. We have to adjust to the faster speeds and once we did that we’ll be fine.”
