Construction begins on the Dickinson reliever route
Construction began Tuesday on the Dickinson reliever route.
The first phase of the five-mile project begins in the area of Interstate 94 and 113th Avenue SW, just north of Exit 59 and will progress north approximately 3 miles to 33rd Street SW. The route will then continue east along 33rd Street SW for approximately 2 miles where it will tie into Highway 22.
This project is designed to improve traffic flow by providing a wider, higher-capacity roadway through a section of Dickinson. The roadway will be concrete pavement with curb and gutter for the first mile north of I-94 along 113th Avenue SW and will provide turn lanes and additional through lanes for traffic. The remainder of the route will be paved with asphalt and consist of a two-lane roadway with a center common turn lane and 8-foot paved shoulders.
During construction heavy equipment and workers will be present in the work zone, traffic may be reduced to one lane, pilot cars and flaggers will be present and, at times, drivers may need to drive on a temporary roadway.
The project is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2014.
