Convicted sex offender moves to Dickinson
DICKINSON - Department is informing the public that a high-risk sex offender moved to town at the end of June.
Nathan Levi Mathews, 25, is currently residing at 537 Second Ave. East.
He is described as being a white male, 6-foot-8 inches tall, weighing 260 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
According to the North Dakota sex offender Web site www.sexoffender.nd.gov, Mathews was convicted of a sexually related crime in Stark County in 1996.
The Web site also states that Mathews was convicted in Texas County, Oklahoma for child abuse/neglect on Dec. 11, 2002. It goes on to say that a child under the age of two was taken to the emergency room with several injuries after being left in Mathews' care.
Mathews apparently admitted he lost his temper after the child bit him.
In a public notification news release provided by the police department, it states Mathews is not wanted by the police at this time and has served the sentence imposed by the court. This notification, which was provided to the press on Thursday, is not intended to increase fear in the community. It is the belief of the Dickinson Police Department that an informed public is a safer public.
The release further states that the Dickinson Police Department does not have control over where Mathews chooses to reside, work, socialize, or go to school unless the court has deemed it necessary to place restrictions on the offender's movements.
Through an investigatory process, the Dickinson Police Department has compiled information about Mathews and through an analysis of this information, has determined him to be a high risk offender.
