Denbury Resources spokesman: Saltwater leak 'posed no threat'

A Denbury Resources spokesman said late Wednesday that the area where a saltwater leak occurred in Stark County this week was secure and "posed no threat" to the public.

"All liquids are being contained and recovered," said Ernesto Alegria of the Plano, Texas,-based company. "We have been actively working with government and local officials to mitigate and remediate the water."

The saltwater leak along Highway 10 about 3 miles east of Dickinson was noticed by a passer-by Tuesday evening. The Dickinson Rural Fire Department responded to a call from that passer-by.

Fire Chief Andy Paulson said the area was "lucky that somebody noticed this before dark."

It is unknown how much saltwater was leaked after a contractor allegedly severed the Denbury saltwater line while doing work in the area, according to officials.
