DHS choirs to present concert
The Dickinson High School Vocal Music Department will present its first concert of the 203-14 school year at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the Dickinson High School Auditorium.
The concert will feature the three Dickinson High School choirs, as individual entities, and in combinations.
The three choirs are the Chorale, which is junior and senior women, and all men, along with sophomore students placed in first period band.
The Festival choir is composed of freshman women, and again sophomore students placed in second period band. The Concert Choir is sophomore women that are not band members.
The evening's program will include selections from many vocal styles, ranging from The French Madrigal "Il Est Belle et Bon" by Passereau, a Baroque piece by Handel, "Sing for Joy" from the oratorio Judas Maccabaeus to contemporary pieces like "You Are My Music" by Laura Farnell, and highlights from the current musical "Once."
The evening will include familiar folksong arrangement, white and Afro-American Spirituals, songs by Paul McCartney, and a grand finale featuring several members of the drum line, on a very recent popular tune, "Some Nights."
The Dickinson High School Vocal Department is under the direction of Michael R. Stevenson, and accompanied by Sharon Gegelmann. A small admission is collected at the door, which goes toward DHS choral activities.
