WILLISTON -- Alex Huschka got a chance to start Thursday night and took full advantage of it.

The Dickinson High senior hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and six rebounds to help his team pick up a 60-43 West Region victory over Williston at Phil Jackson Fieldhouse.

Huschka got the start over sophomore Mark Erickson, the Midgets' regular starting point guard.

"He got us through some tough spots," Dickinson head coach John Wilson said.

Dickinson's other starting guard, junior Dylan Skabo, used a strong defensive effort to help the Midgets spark a first-half lead they would eventually build upon. While he had just nine points on 4 of 4 shooting and was only credited with two steals, Wilson said Skabo's defense helped force turnovers at a time Dickinson needed them most.

"That kept our head above water and kept our team into it," Wilson said.

Senior center Jordan Krieg was no slouch either. He finished with team highs of 16 points and nine rebounds.

"Jordan is doing so well now," Wilson said. "He's playing such a level ahead. He just dominated the boards again."

Jayden Ferguson led the Coyotes (2-10, 1-8 West) with 12 points and six rebounds.

The game doesn't get easier for the Midgets (7-6, 4-6 West) as they visit No. 3-ranked Minot High at 6:45 p.m. Saturday.

"You take a Minot game like that, we're going to have to play extremely well against a very good team that's got size and good shooters from the outside," Wilson said. "It's an opportunity to see where we're at in February and see if we can take the home stretch before tournament time."
