Dickinson meeting to focus on child care crisis in Oil Patch
The North Dakota Department of Human Services, North Dakota Association of Oil & Gas Producing Counties, North Dakota Child Care Providers Inc. and several organizations will hold a workshop at 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Dickinson State University Badlands Activities Center to discuss the child care crisis in the Bakken, according to a press release.
An oil boom in western North Dakota has stressed child care facilities, according to the release. The child care supply in Dunn, McKenzie, Mercer, Mountrail, Stark, Ward and Williams counties averages 22 percent of the demand when it should supply 50 percent, and the seven counties must add almost 4,700 spaces, or 37 centers, in three years.
Participants will review the state's programs, identify issues and attempt to form solutions for the crisis.
