JAMESTOWN — After scoring a combined 50 runs in its two home series last week, the Dickinson State softball team’s offense settled down.

The Blue Hawks defeated the University of Jamestown 5-3, 6-2 on Thursday, but the Jimmies’ pitching limited them to single-digit games.

DSU took an early 3-0 lead, but the Jimmies retaliated with three runs during the fifth and sixth innings to tie.

Left fielder Sarah Money hit a two-run home run in the fifth and Olivia Knott scored in the sixth on a wild throw by DSU catcher Brianna Grayson.

In the top of the seventh, Justeena Gutierrez and Rebecca Lopez scored and game-winning runs on an error by catcher Megan Heriot. Grayson finished 1 for 2 with a run and RBI and Monique Yslas went 1 for 3 with a run and two stolen bases.

Regan Lawrence pitched a complete game with three runs (two earned) on nine hits and struck out six. Opposite Lawrence in the circle was Emily Snow who gave up five runs (three earned) on six hits, walked four and struck out three.

In game two, DSU put breathing room between them and the Jimmies.

Pitcher Tiffany Morgan limited Jamestown to just two runs and gave up five hits. Mandy Thiessen was credited with the loss and allowed six runs (two earned), seven hits and struck out five batters.

The Blue Hawks capitalized on Jamestown’s mistakes, as the Jimmies committed four errors. Leadoff hitter Lopez reached base on Tylynn McKeever’s bobbled ball and eventually scored after Lindsey Sullivan grounded out to the shortstop. Alex Vargas scored on the next at-bat as Grayson doubled to right.

Lopez went 1 for 4 with two runs, Sullivan finished 1 for 4 with two RBI and Vargas was 2 for 4 at the plate with three runs, two RBI after a two-run homer in the top of the third.

For Jamestown, first baseman Emily Newman and catcher Sydney Greenlund scored the team’s only runs.

DSU returns home to host a weekend series against Mayville State at 2:30 p.m. today at Dickinson’s North Complex.
