FARGO — The Dickinson Roughriders American Legion baseball team opened pool play of the Joe Parmer Red River Diamond Classic with wins against Sioux Falls (S.D.) Post 307 and Fargo Post 2.

The Roughriders topped Sioux Falls 7-4 and finished with a 4-3 victory over Fargo on Friday.

In the opening game, Dickinson’s Brett Schweitzer and Kendall Jones combined to throw seven innings and allowed four runs on four hits. Jones picked up the win for the Roughriders (8-2).

Schweitzer went 5 2/3 innings, allowed four runs on four hits and struck out three, while Jones pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and collected a pair of strikeouts.

Michael McChesney led Dickinson’s bats going 1 for 3 with two RBI and scored a run. Lucas Jones added three hits — including a pair of doubles — and scored two runs. Luke Herauf went 2 for 3 and scored a pair of runs, while Dylan Skabo and Alex Huschka each had a hit, RBI and scored a run. Mark Erickson and Dylan Wallner each had hits for the Roughriders.

During the second game, Dylan Wallner pitched five scoreless innings to pick up the win. Alex Huschka pitched the final two innings for the save.

Herauf went 1 for 2 with a three-run home run — his fourth home run of the season — in the first inning. Skabo went 2 for 2, while Lucas Jones and Huschka each supplied a hit and scored a run. Cole Anderson and Schweitzer each had one hit.

Dickinson finished pool play against Elkhorn, Neb., at 7 a.m. today. The Roughriders can either receive the Nos. 1 or 2 seeds coming out of the Black Division in pool play. Dickinson has three more games guaranteed at the Red River Classic, but can play up to four if it makes the championship game on Sunday.
