Ditka to speak at oil company grand opening
WATFORD CITY -- Former NFL coach Mike Ditka will be a featured guest Thursday at an oil company's grand opening event in Watford City.
Ditka will speak during an event sponsored by Canary, previously Frontier Energy Group, which is celebrating the completion of a new 45,000-square-foot facility in Watford City.
The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at 2438 U.S. Highway 85 N. in Watford City and is free and open to the public.
Ditka is scheduled to speak at 11 a.m. and will be available for some photos and autographs before his speech, said Jacob Eberhart, vice president of communications for Canary.
Immediately after his speech, Ditka is scheduled to fly to Chicago for an ESPN radio show, Eberhart said.
The event also features performance painter David Garibaldi, a former finalist on the TV show "America's Got Talent."
Canary officials decided to plan an exciting event as the company works to build its brand under a new name, Eberhart said.
The oilfield service company began as Frontier Wellhead & Supply in Watford City in 1986 and grew beyond the Bakken through a variety of acquisitions, Eberhart said.
Canary previously operated as Frontier Energy Group until the 2013 acquisition of Canary Wellhead. The company is now the nation's largest independent wellhead services company with 27 locations. Corporate headquarters are in Denver but operations headquarters are in Watford City.
Oil Patch Preacher Ron Evitt, Watford City Mayor Brent Sanford and Canary executives also are scheduled to be at the event.
