Dunn County Extension to hold risk management seminar
KILLDEER - Dunn County Extension is hosting a risk management meeting in Killdeer at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26.
The focus of the meeting is cost control and risk planning for forage producers. The National Crop Insurance Services is sponsoring this series of meetings in North Dakota to bring producers up to speed on the insurance products available to reduce risks and manage risks.
Their portion of the program centers on the relatively new plans for pasture, rangeland and forage insurance. Dr. Laurence Crane is the spokesman for National Crop Insurance.
Cole Gustafson from North Dakota State University is to speak about current conditions of the agriculture economy, energy markets, ethanol and other timely topics.
Professor Emeritus Harlan Hughes, a former livestock economist from North Dakota State University, is to talk about feed cost increases and impacts on the cattle industry. Hughes is to evaluate alternative ranch production and marketing programs built around higher corn prices. Hughes is currently living in Wyoming, and is returning to North Dakota to present his perspective.
Dr. Matt Diersen from South Dakota State University is to discuss the current forage outlook for the nation and region and the resulting impact of increased grain and forage prices on the ranching sector.
There is a beef lunch provided after the meeting and although registration is not required, it is appreciated. To register, call the Dunn County Extension office at 701-764-5593.
