Eagles Auxiliary sponsors 5K walk/run for diabetes
The fifth annual 5K walk/run for diabetes research gets underway on Saturday. This year, participants are asked to register at Rocky Butte Park from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m. The race time kicks off at 8 a.m. The entry fee is $25.
The fundraiser is sponsored by the Dickinson Eagles Auxiliary 2328 and St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center.
"We believe diabetes needs a lot of research to find a cure," auxiliary President Betty Jo Noe said. "Diabetes is a very deliberating disease and can affect everyone from all walks of life."
Participants will be served fruit, drinks and sandwiches. They also receive a T-shirt. The winners in each age category receive medals.
Noe describes the Eagles Auxiliary as an organization of people helping people.
"We try to keep some of the proceeds local and we're always looking for new members to join us," she said.
The auxiliary meets at 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month at the Eagles Club. She said membership is a mix of mothers with young children and women who are retired. They all appreciate the social outlet and service opportunities that the auxiliary provides.
