Escape to the Lake marks 20th year
CENTER -- Escape to the Lake, North Dakota’s annual adaptive water skiing extravaganza for people with physical disabilities, is celebrating its 20th year.
Participants from around North Dakota, family members and friends will water ski and go on pontoon rides June 21 at Nelson Lake Recreation Area near Center.
The event began at Devils Lake in 1994 at the urging of Mike Gibbens, who was born with cerebral palsy. Gibbens is a water skiing enthusiast and son of North Dakota Association for the Disabled co-founders Ron and Faye Gibbens.
