Escaped inmate turns herself in to authorities
DICKINSON - Carley Jean Zaun, the New England Dakota Women's Correction Rehab inmate who walked away from her work release program as a cook at the Dickinson Law Enforcement Center on Friday afternoon, turned herself into authorities in Bismarck around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Zaun, 22, is currently in the Burleigh County Detention Center and is waiting to be transported back to the Dakota Women's Correctional Rehab Center, Colby Braun, the operation administrator for the DWCRC, said.
"We don't really know anything," Braun said of a motive.
Zaun was jailed on June 12, 2007, at the Dakota Women's Correction Rehab Center for possession of methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia, ingesting a controlled substance and criminal trespass.
Braun said Zaun was described as a model prisoner with no prior record of misconduct.
Due to the minimum security nature of her incarceration, Zaun was not under constant surveillance while working.
