Famous Dave's eyeing Dickinson
Franchisees Casey and Pat Ryan don't know where or when yet, but they plan to bring barbecue chain restaurant Famous Dave's to booming Dickinson.
"We plan to build restaurants in Minot and in Dickinson," Casey Ryan said. "We're actively looking for property in both those two markets."
The brothers, who are about three months away from opening their first North Dakota Famous Dave's in Williston, have bought the franchising rights to the Dickinson and Minot markets.
"First and foremost, we want to make sure we get Williston -- we get the doors open and get it done right," Pat Ryan said. "From there, whether it's Minot or whether it's Dickinson next, is yet to be determined."
The Ryans, who are from Billings, Mont., have Famous Dave's restaurants in Montana, Idaho and South Dakota.
"I know Dickinson has some really interesting projects coming online there that we've been watching," Casey Ryan said. "As of now, no property has been identified."
In an effort to create affordable housing at the Williston location, the designs for the restaurant include two three-bedroom apartments.
"We did do something a little bit outside of the box for us here in Williston by having zoning allowed for having a couple apartments above the building," Pat Ryan said. "How those will be used will kind of evolve over time."
The Ryans are unsure if this same design will be used in Dickinson but it could be a possibility, Pat Ryan said.
The type of food served at Famous Dave's, combined with the Minnesota-based brand's national appeal, will help draw Dickinson natives as well as the transplants, Casey Ryan said.
There is no set timeline for the Dickinson location to open, and the Minot location may come first.
"We're actively looking," Casey Ryan said. "Once the right opportunity comes up, we're going to move quickly on it."
