Saturday's defeat at the hands of one of the state's top teams is progress for the young Dickinson girls hockey team, head coach Lauren Hansen said.

McKenna Moore had two goals and an assist and Alex Woken added two goals for Fargo South-Davies, which scored three goals in each period to defeat the Midgets 9-1 at the Dickinson Recreation Center.

With only next Saturday's game against No. 1-ranked West Fargo remaining on its schedule, Hansen said Dickinson is striving for improvement every game.

"Putting in three successful periods is what our girls are working for," Hansen said. "I feel like we're getting there and we're accomplishing that. That's what we're working on."

Junior goalie Paige Fahlstrom had a remarkable 69 saves for the Midgets, including 35 in the first period.

Dickinson had just nine shots on goal.

Freshman center Kira Zastoupil was the only scorer for the team, sending an unassisted goal past Bruins goalie Kiki Brophy in the second period.

South-Davies (14-8, 13-5 state) had seven players score and four others come in on assists.

"Obviously, they're a very talented team," Hansen said. "They're a fun team to watch play. But I think the girls stepped up and I really felt our girls made them work for their goals. The important thing is we did that every single period, which is a big accomplishment for us."

The Midgets (1-18, 0-16 state) wrap up their season Saturday against West Fargo (18-1, 17-0 state) at 2 p.m. at the Rec Center.
