Farm bill plan advancing, but its future unknown

REDWOOD FALLS, Minn. -- Top agriculture members of Congress can be ready with a backup farm bill quickly, but it is not clear if it ever will see the light of day.

U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson, a Democrat representing western Minnesota, is one of the four negotiating what could be a set of new federal farm policies, which he said could be honed within a week.
