Floodgates open, Century beats DHS at West Region

MINOT — Alex Flicek scored a pair of first-period goals that got Bismarck Century rolling.

And it didn’t stop there.

The No. 3-seeded Patriots cruised to a 9-2 victory over Dickinson High in the quarterfinals of the West Region boys hockey tournament Thursday at All Seasons Arena.

Ben Pacheco had a goal in the second period and Matt Pavek added another in the third for Dickinson. But by that time, it was too late.

Century tacked on three goals in the second and four more in the third.

Eric Schaper had 28 saves for the Midgets, who had just 14 shots on goal.

Chris Brown and Will Renner each had a goal in both the second and third periods for the Patriots, who advance to play No. 2 seed Minot tonight in the semifinals.

Dickinson will play to extend its season when it takes on Mandan at about 2 p.m. CST today in a loser-out game.
