Gillette scores early to beat Roughriders

BILLINGS, Mont. — The Dickinson Roughriders American Legion baseball team couldn’t recreate the 18-run performance on the second day of the Goldsmith Tournament.

Gillette (Wyo.) used a six-run second inning and a strong pitching performance from Wyatt Estabrook to defeat the Roughriders 9-1 on Saturday.

Estabrook picked up the win and threw five innings, allowed one run on two hits and struck out five.

Dickinson’s Dylan Wallner, who lasted 1 2/3 innings, was tagged with the loss after he allowed six runs on five hits. Brett Schweitzer pitched the final 3 1/3 innings.

Gillette (30-14) received plenty of hits from Lucas Rissler. He finished 3 for 3 with three doubles and two RBI. Tyler Tennant also finished posted a hit and two RBI, while Drayson Hladky had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one. Josh Hughes had a pair of RBI and Alex King went 1 for 2 with a RBI and scored two runs.

Cole Anderson drove in Dickinson’s lone run on a RBI triple in the fourth inning. Luke Herauf, who reached on a walk, scored on Anderson’s triple. Lucas Jones had the team’s other hit.

With the completion of the game, Dickinson and Gillette both sit at 1-1 in the tournament.

The Roughriders (12-3) continue tournament play against the Billings Royals at 11 a.m. and Idaho Falls at 2 p.m. today.
