BELCOURT -- Ben Gordon threw three touchdown passes to Jacob Volk and had five total as Dickinson Trinity had its best performance of the season, shutting out Turtle Mountain on Friday night.

The Titans beat the still-winless Braves 38-0 in the Class 2A, West Region game, their second shutout win of the season.

Gordon was 10 of 16 for 211 yards passing. The 6-foot senior also rushed for 46 yards. Much of Gordon's yards through the air were a credit to Volk, a 6-foot-3 senior who had 143 yards on five catches.

"I think we feel pretty good about ourselves, as far as coming out and doing things well," Trinity head coach Randy Gordon said.

Despite the long travel day -- it's a 320-mile trip to just south of the Canadian border -- Randy Gordon said the Titans came out strong and looked fresh.

They led 32-0 at halftime and didn't have a turnover.

"I don't care who we would have played, we played pretty well," Randy Gordon said. "The kids really responded. They did their assignment and they played good, physical football."

Volk had touchdown catches of 15, 75 and 25 yards -- all in the first half. Isiah Binstock caught a 5-yard TD pass in the first quarter and Jacob Good hauled in a 37-yarder from Ben Gordon in the second quarter.

Brendin Steiner capped Trinity's scoring with an 83-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Kyle Monette rushed for 63 yards on four carries to lead the Braves (0-7, 0-5 West). Brock Keplin had 24 yards receiving and rushed for 51 yards.

Trinity (4-3, 3-2 West) is still in the thick of the playoff hunt. They host Bottineau at 5 p.m. next Thursday and play No. 1-ranked Beulah, which lost to No. 5 Minot Ryan on Friday night, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16.

Though nothing is certain, Trinity could likely lose a game and still make the playoffs. If they win both games, they have a shot at the region's No. 2 seed and a home playoff game.

"It's pretty bottled up yet," Randy Gordon said of the West Region standings.
