Grand Forks County plans to test unmanned aircraft at night
GRAND FORKS -- The Grand Forks County sheriff's department says it has received federal authorization to train on its unmanned aircraft system at night.
Sheriff's officials say the Federal Aviation Administration approved the program this week. The department has been using drones for several years.
The department's unmanned systems unit has deployed six times since May on missions that included checking erosion control measures on the Turtle River and searching for suspects.
North Dakota is bidding to become one of six FAA test sites for unmanned aircraft systems.
