Grandstrand joins Press
Katherine Grandstrand is assisting in keeping The Dickinson Press design fresh and stories interesting. She joined The Press editorial staff as a copy editor Tuesday.
"I love editing and I love kind of tweaking things and making them perfect," Grandstrand said.
She wants to "help make it a really well-oiled machine."
Grandstrand will help with reporting along with other duties.
"Katherine will work the copy desk, but being a small paper, everyone has their hands in a little bit of everything," said Jennifer McBride, managing editor.
Grandstrand graduated from Bemidji State University in 2007 and went on to Columbia College, Chicago, where she obtained a master's degree in journalism in 2009.
She has had an interest in reporting since she was young.
"News was always super important to my family growing up," she said.
Grandstrand worked on the newspaper at Tri-County High School in Karlstad, Minn.
"The first paper we did, we literally cut and pasted with scissors and paper before we actually got the hang of computer layout," Grandstrand said.
In her free time Grandstrand enjoys bicycling.
"I like to use it as my main source of transportation, when possible," she said. "It's good for the environment."
She also enjoys the company of her cats and volunteering at pet shelters. Grandstrand intends to continue volunteering when she gets settled in her new home in Dickinson.
"Katherine is a great addition to our team," McBride said. "Her commitment to local news along with her education will truly be an asset."
