Authorities identify man who died in fiery crash on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks

Gregory Joseph Horton

Gregory Joseph Horton, age 61 of Grand Forks, ND went to be with his Savior and Lord at his home on Monday, June 30, 2014. Greg accepted Jesus as his personal Savior April 25, 1976. Greg was born the son of Robert and Eleanor (Kolojeski) Horton in Duluth, MN. He graduated from Dickinson High School (ND) in 1971. He became an Eagle Scout while he was in high school. Greg graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT in 1975 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He married Gloria Anton in Dickinson, ND on June 21, 1975. He was stationed in Duluth, MN on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Woodrush as an Ops Officer that also investigated the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald. In 1976 they moved to Groton, CT where he was with the USCG Research and Development Center. In 1980 they moved back to Duluth where he worked for MN Power as an Electrical Distribution Engineer and also as a master electrician for King Son Electric. In 1998 the family moved to Grand Forks where he worked for KBM as an Electrical Distribution Engineer until his retirement due to ill health in 2013. Greg held professional Electrical Engineers license in MN, ND and SD. Greg dedicated many vacations serving our Lord on mission trips by helping the less fortunate in Uganda, Honduras and Mexico. Greg was an avid bike rider and gardener. He also served on the Shelter Board for the Northland Rescue Mission in Grand Forks from 2007-2013.

He is survived by his wife Gloria, and 2 sons, Paul and Tim all of Grand Forks, ND, 1 brother, Kevin (Tatjana) Horton of Hamilton, MT, 2 sisters, Missy (Jim) Murphy of Bend, OR, and Cyndi Hughes of Hamilton, MT. He is preceded in death by his parents.
