Hazel Hjort passed from this life peacefully, Friday, July 25, 2014 at St. Benedicts Health Center, Dickinson.

Hazel Ruth Jorstad was born January 8, 1923, at the family farm south of Haverlock, to Sigurd and Anne (Lien) Jorstad. She grew up on the farm and attended the Ott School in Kennedy township. During the later years of WWII, Hazel worked in the Denver area, and during the early fifties she worked for her brother Sig, managing the household at his farm near Pullman, Washington. On June 30, 1958, Hazel married Russell E. Hjort at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Dickinson. Russells work with the soil conservation service took them to Watford City for two years. They located in Dickinson in 1960 and remained there the rest of their lives. They were members of St. Johns Lutheran ELCA. Hazel was an active volunteer at the church and a longtime member of the quilting group. For many years she was a volunteer hair dresser at St. Lukes Nursing Home. She was also a proud member of the Sons of Norway. Hazel enjoyed gardening, was an avid seamstress and an excellent cook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her parents Sigurd and Anne Jorstad; her brothers, Oliver, Roy, and Sig; her sisters Olive and Emma; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Hazel is survived by her sister Clara Tews; sister-in-law Carol Jorstad and brother-in-law Dale Hjort; together with nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews.
