Health clinic opens doors in Dickinson
Dickinson North Dakota 1815 1st Street West 58602

In the past, area employers have had to turn to several different entities for work-related health issues. They will no longer have to since Medcenter One Health Clinic opened in Dickinson on Monday. They took their first patients on Tuesday.

"It's literally a one-stop shop," said Stephanie Murdock, executive director. "We literally put everything under one roof."

Murdock said Dr. Joel Blanchard is the medical director of the clinic, which is the only free-standing occupational clinic in western North Dakota.

"The only kind of services we do are for area businesses and their employees," Murdock said. "It's geared just for those things that are mandatory requirements for employers to offer to their employees or health and wellness promotion that their doing within their worksite."

The staff at the clinic can treat work related injuries as well as perform drug testing and physicals. They also teach injury prevention.

"Our philosophy is actually prevention," Murdock said. "We treat injuries, but we'd much rather prevent them."

Before they know how they can potentially prevent injuries, the staff of Medcenter One Occupational Health Clinic must get to know the business.

"We actually go to the companies and look at what their work situation is and see if we can make recommendations towards safety or improvement in health," Murdock said. "We try to tailor any services we do for the company."

She said the biggest goal of the clinic is to create a partnership with area companies.

"We learn from them just as much as I hope they learn from us," Murdock said.

Work-related injuries can cost a company money and Kristin Chaussee, nurse practitioner at the clinic said she works with employers to find tasks that injured employees can perform while recovering.

"We rarely ever take somebody completely off of work," Chausse said. "We all work as a team to get that person back to work."

The clinic is located at 1531 W. Villard St. in the former Knights of Columbus building.

"Because we're occupational medicine or industrial medicine, it makes sense for us to be in a more industrial part (of Dickinson)," Murdock said.

Medcenter One Occupational Health Clinic will have an open house on April 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. For more information about the clinic call 701-225-7575 or 1-888-323-2688.
