Heitkamp to host first Native American Veterans Summit
BISMARCK — U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp will host the first Native American Veterans Summit on Saturday in Bismarck.
The summit will give Native American veterans the chance to speak with federal officials about challenges they face and better connect with the resources and support they have earned, Heitkamp said in a news release.
Among the federal officials scheduled to attend are U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell, Assistant Secretary of Indian Affairs Kevin Washburn and Jodi Gillette, the White House’s senior policy advisor for Native American affairs.
Heitkamp said veterans also will be able to learn about ongoing initiatives to improve access to veterans’ health care, housing and employment programs and other available benefits.
The summit is open to the public. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Lewis Goodhouse Wellness Center gymnasium at United Tribes Technical College, 3315 University Drive, Bismarck.
