Herauf places runner-up in heptathlon at Big Ten Outdoor Championships
University of Minnesota junior and Dickinson High School graduate Jess Herauf set a personal best after finishing runner-up during the women’s heptathlon at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Gophers junior scored a career-high 5,490 points in the heptathlon, which also ranks her second all-time in school history.
Herauf placed first in the heptathlon’s javelin and shot put. She threw 152-feet, 8-inches in the javelin and 43-2½ during the shot put. She also placed runner-up in the heptathlon’s 800-meter run in a time 2 minutes, 20.18 seconds. The junior finished in a three-way tie for third with a height of 5-4½.
In addition to the heptathlon, Herauf finished seventh in the women’s javelin (159-7).
Herauf was a second-team All-American after placing ninth during the NCAA indoor championships.
