Ice fishing might be difficult again in ND

BISMARCK (AP) -- Another year of early winter snowfall in North Dakota is leading to worries about limited access to lakes for ice fishing.

Anglers have found it difficult the past couple of winters to get to some lakes. State Game and Fish Department Fisheries Chief Greg Power says this is shaping up to be a similar winter.

Because of wet conditions the past few years, a record number of water bodies in North Dakota are being managed as fisheries. But Power says Game and Fish doesn't have the resources to maintain access to lakes in the winter. He says that during harsh winters, the cost of doing that could run into the millions of dollars.

Power says people or groups pitch in to try to keep access points open at some lakes.
