Jamestown adopts adult entertainment ordinance
JAMESTOWN -- Adult entertainment in Jamestown will now be controlled by city ordinance.
The Jamestown City Council unanimously passed an ordinance Monday that regulates and limits the possible locations of such businesses as strip clubs, escort services, adult modeling agencies, adult theaters and sexual encounter centers.
"Jamestown did not have any ordinance regarding this," said Mayor Katie Andersen. "Our fear was these businesses could locate anywhere in commercial districts."
The ordinance that passed limits adult-oriented businesses to locations within heavy industrial areas where the property is at least 300 feet from any church, school, residence, liquor establishment or other adult-oriented business.
Andersen said the ordinance prohibits alcohol from being served in adult entertainment businesses and requires the owners and workers be licensed and submit to background checks.
