Karen Arlene Benzie-Saunders
Karen Arlene Benzie-Saunders died January 14, 2014 in Minneapolis, MN from complications of MS. She was born in Ft. Myers, FL on October 9, 1948. Karen is the third daughter of Donovan B. Benzie and Virginia P. (Scott) Benzie. Her family moved to Dickinson in 1960 where Karen graduated from Dickinson High School and Dickinson State College.
Karen taught H.S. Business Education at Velva High School, Dickinson High School and Hennepin Co. Vo-Tech (MN) during the 1970s. She earned a Masters degree in Computer Programming in 1978 from the University of Minnesota. She worked for the SOO Line RR and a computer consulting firm before starting her career with Honeywell Corporation. Karen worked in several capacities at Honeywell corporate offices in Minneapolis between the years of 1981 to 1989.
Karen was an active member of her college sorority, ASA and Phi Beta Lambda business fraternity. She was a charter member of the Association of Women in Computers and served on the Honeywell Womens Council.
On July 23, 1983 she married Kent Saunders of Bloomington, MN. They have one daughter Andreana.
Karen is survived by her husband and daughter of Bloomington, MN, her sisters Pat (Von) Riddle, Donna (Bruce) Wandler and Judith (John) Dalton and brother-in-law Bruce Saunders. Memorials can be made to the MS Society. A family inurnment will be held later in Taylor, ND.
