The man went to three elementary schools and a middle school, and each time he registered in the main office, saying he needed to look in the lost-and-found, said Lt. Joel Vettel, who declined to name the schools.

In all four cases, the man was escorted to the lost-and-found by a school employee, and he did not come into contact with any students. The man took a couple of pieces of clothing from at least two of the schools, Vettel said.

Because the man used his real name when he registered at the schools, police were able to quickly find him. He told police he needed money and was looking for items to sell, Vettel said.
