Mandan man injured in McKenzie County collision

A Mandan man suffered minor injuries and totaled the semi truck he was driving in rural McKenzie County the morning of Friday, July 19.

Jeffry Mayer, 46, was driving a 2005 Peterbilt semi west on Highway 23 when he swerved to avoid a 2000 Chevrolet pickup being driven by Glenn Braswell, 52, of Farmerville, La.

The accident closed Highway 23 about 11 miles east of Watford City from 6 a.m. to about 12:15 p.m. Friday.

Braswell told the North Dakota Highway Patrol he had missed a turn and had went to a road approach to allow traffic to pass. While turning around, Mayer drove into the south ditch to avoid a broadside collision and clipped the bumper of the pickup, spinning it around. Mayer's truck then entered the south ditch, where it crossed the roadway heading northwest. Once back on the road, the Peterbilt's tank trailer tipped the combination onto the road and spun it around where it came to a rest facing east. The contents of the fully loaded tanker did not spill onto the road.

Braswell was not injured. Both men were wearing their seatbelts.
