Medora City Council supports four-lane Highway 85
In a unanimous vote Wednesday at its monthly meeting, the Medora City Council moved to issue a resolution in support of the proposed expansion of U.S. Highway 85 into a four-lane corridor from Belfield to south of Watford City.
“I think safety is paramount at this time,” said Medora Mayor Doug Ellison. “I don’t know how many times you read about accidents on Highway 85. There’s no financial commitment on our part, this is just a show of support.”
The resolution was presented by the Theodore Roosevelt Expressway Association and will be offered to the North Dakota Department of Transportation in an effort to encourage planning of the project. Officials at Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the Bismarck-based Badlands Conservation Alliance have expressed concern about any potential project encroaching on the North Unit of TRNP.
