Meetings set on ND Roman Catholic diocese plan
FARGO (AP) -- A proposal by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Fargo to restructure parishes and schools is meeting some opposition.
Brad Schmidt of West Fargo tells The Forum newspaper that he thinks Bishop Samuel Aquila's proposals aren't logical. One of them is to merge Schmidt's church with another in West Fargo.
The diocese says changes are necessary because of the direction of growth in the metro area. Monsignor Joseph Goering, vicar general of the diocese, says parishioners should consider the best interests of the diocese and not just individual parishes. And he says the decisions aren't final.
The diocese plans three public meetings this week.
