Midgets, Beaudoin win third straight
Dickinson High's girls golf team and its individual leader Chevis Beaudoin remained unbeaten at meets this season after each took victories Saturday.
The Midgets shot a 331 and Beaudoin finished with a 74 to win the Williston Invitational at Eagle Ridge Golf Club.
However, it was Caitlin Dunn who stole the show. Dunn shot a career-high 79 to capture second place at the meet and propel the No. 1-ranked Midgets past Minot High, which shot a 336 and had its top four golfers place fourth through seventh.
"She was kind of our highlight for the day," Dickinson High coach Olivia Wellenstein said of Dunn. "That was our big boost for the meet"
Wellenstein added that Dunn's surprise showing has her more anxious to see how the season progresses now that the Midgets have won their first three meets.
"You never know about these kids," she said.
Dickinson's Shaynna Mann finished in a four-way tie for seventh place with an 87. Chelsey Galipeau rounded out the top four with a 91. Stephanie Wallace shot a 97 and Jenna Wellenstein hit a 98.
"It shows you we are a little bit deeper than we thought we were," Wellenstein said.
Wellenstein said despite the victory, she's still hoping for more stability out of the team's top six golfers.
"We're still looking for a little bit more consistency with them," she said.
Beaudoin, the top-ranked girls golfer in North Dakota, had a 2-under par heading into Hole No. 9, but bogeyed to drop to 1-under.
The Midgets previously won the East-West Classic in Jamestown and the Mandan Invitational. Beaudoin shot a 77-71-148 in the two-day Classic and a 76 at Mandan.
