Midgets grab 2 third-place finishes at West Fargo Invite

WEST FARGO — The Dickinson High tennis team grabbed two third place wins during the West Fargo Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Dynae Zubke took third in No. 6 singles, while the duo of junior Pier Hanson and senior Shealynn Roller placed third in No. 3 doubles. Dickinson collected six points and placed in a tie for seventh with Williston and Valley City.

Zubke defeated Valley City’s Angela Larson 6-4, 6-3 in the third place match. Samantha Clark of Bismarck Century topped Zubke 6-2, 6-4 in the semifinals. The Dickinson sophomore also picked up wins against Marie Bitzan of Fargo Shanley and Minot’s Tessa Wilson.

In No. 3 doubles, Hanson and Roller topped Maddie Baumgartner and Mallory Donlin of Bismarck St. Mary’s 6-1, 6-1. Gabriella Holmen and Britta Knudson of Bismarck Century defeated Hanson and Roller in the semifinals 6-4, 6-1.

The duo of Ireland Jung and Kayla Wallace placed sixth in No. 2 doubles. They lost their opening match to Emily McGregor and Maria Wanzek of Fargo Davies, but won the next three matches to reach consolation finals.

The Midgets have four players lose in the consolation semifinals.
